Event | Antipsychotics in LTC: Setting a National Target for Appropriate Use
Canada’s long-term care homes are over-prescribing antipsychotic medications at rates far exceeding those in comparable countries. One in four long-term care residents are on these powerful drugs potentially inappropriately, without a diagnosis of psychosis.
To address this, an independent panel of experts has developed recommendations for a national target for appropriate use of antipsychotics in Canada’s long-term care homes. Having a target rate for the country is a major step forward in Canada’s decade-long struggle to keep antipsychotic use within clinical guidelines.
Join us on June 18 at 12 p.m. ET for the launch of the new target, hosted by the Appropriate Use Coalition. Experts will present key findings, introduce the new targets, and discuss how to move toward safer, more appropriate antipsychotic use in Canadian LTC homes.
