Certified Homes

32 long-term care homes across Canada have been certified by the Appropriate Use Coalition in 2026 for meeting the national target for appropriate use of antipsychotic medications.

In order to be recognized, a long-term care home’s data and achievement must be certified by the Appropriate Use Coalition. Homes are required to:

  1. Maintain the publicly reported, risk-adjusted rate of 15% or lower for the indicator ‘potentially inappropriate use of antipsychotics in long-term care’ for the two most recent reporting years (2023/24 and 2024/25).
  2. Pass a data quality check, conducted by the Appropriate Use Coalition. The goal of the data quality check is to ensure that homes are using reliable, accurate data for meeting the national target.
  3. Complete the short National Recognition Program Form. This form is sent to long-term care homes meeting criteria 1 and 2 and requests information about strategies used to achieve and maintain the target rate in their long-term care home.

The 32 long-term care homes that have been certified in 2026 are among the leaders in Canada for employing non-pharmacological approaches to improve residents’ wellbeing and safety. The certified homes span multiple provinces, comprise non-profit and for-profit providers, and operate facilities both small and large.
